DTM – A TOASTMASTER’S ADVENTURE ROUTE

Our educational program features a communication and a leadership track.  The tracks are not mutually exclusive.  Members can work in both tracks at the same time.

Use The Adventure Route to CTM

The core of the communication track is the Communication and Leadership Program manual (also called the “basic manual”), which contains 10 speech projects.

The basic manual helps members develop the basic skills needed to prepare and present an effective speech.  Every speech a member presents in the Club should be a manual speech.  Send in your application for the CTM award once you complete the 10 projects.

Use The Adventure Route to ATM-B, ATM-S and ATM-G

After receiving CTM recognition, a member can enter the Advanced Communication Program.  This program consists of 15 manuals, each containing five speech projects.  Many of the manuals are career-oriented; several are not.  For each level of the Advanced Toastmaster Award, you are required to complete 2 advanced manuals.

While working on your Advanced Manuals or earlier, you can proceed to conduct 2 programs from The Better Speaker Series and/or The Successful Club Series.  You can start to coach a new member with the first 3 speech projects, keep the record for filing in your ATM-G later.

Along the Adventure Route, you can also conduct a Success/Leadership Program, Success/Communication Program or a Youth Leadership Program whenever you are ready to do so.

Use the Adventure Route for CL and AL

The leadership track continues to help members learn and practise speaking skills while adding a new focus : the chance to work in leadership positions with others.

The High Performance Leadership Program (Catalog No 262) is a great manual to use in developing leadership skills.  The program features five projects offering instruction and practice in such vital leadership areas as :

  • Developing a vision

  • Goal setting and planning

  • Developing plans and strategies, and

  • Team building

While you plan your High Performance Leadership program, follow the Adventure Route to serve as Club Officer, help to chart a Club Success Plan and conduct 2 programs from The Successful Club Series.  During your term of office, participate in a District sponsored Club Officer Training program.  This will earn you the Competent Leader Award (CL).

To be eligible for the Advanced Leader award, serve as a District Officer for a complete term.  Take the opportunity to be a club sponsor, a club mentor or a club specialist.  All these activities will lead you to the Adventure Route to become an Advanced Leader.

Use the Adventure Route to DTM

The Distinguished Toastmaster award is the highest award our organization bestows and it recognizes both communication and leadership skills.  To be eligible, a member must have achieved ATM-G and AL awards.
